“The World Bank mobilized its capabilities very quickly, and literally within a few weeks, significant funds were provided to countries to combat the pandemic. At the first stage, we have already provided $ 387 million: $ 27 million - to Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan - $ 311 million, Kyrgyzstan - $ 21 million, Tajikistan - $ 27.5 million, ”Burunchuk said during the WB online briefing“ Mitigating the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic in Central Asia ".

The World Bank is discussing the second stage of support with the government of the country - assistance in economic recovery.

“We have several projects that we started preparing even before the pandemic, but they are very important for the economic recovery now. This is a project for the development of animal husbandry for $ 0.5 billion, as well as a project for digital development, which today has become very necessary during the virtual work of the whole world, ”added Burunchuk.

“As of digitalization, we currently have an amount of $ 500 million, but the project is still being prepared, so the amount can be specified, it may be one stage or several stages, the work is still underway,” the regional director clarified.

Nur-Sultan's new infectious disease center meets the requirements

The city infectious diseases center, which began its work on May 3 this year, was built in a short time and is now fully operational, said the director of the center, Anna Tsepke. The center is designed for two hundred patients, of which 20 are intensive care units and 180 beds in ward departments. Today there are 178 patients here.

“The most important feature of the center is that it provided the presence of supply and exhaust ventilation, which does not allow dirty air from the wards where patients are located to go out into the corridor. This prevents contamination of staff and nosocomial contamination. The second very important feature of the center is that there is a very correct zoning between the "dirty" and clean zones, that is, where the patients are and where the medical staff is. Thus, the new Nur-Sultan infectious diseases center meets all modern requirements, ”Tsepke said.

According to her, the center has created conditions for diagnostics, there is a computer tomograph. Patients undergo the whole complex of studies, changes in the lungs are specified. There is an artificial lung ventilation apparatus, oxygen access, in addition to the intensive care unit, is available in another hundred wards, where patients receive oxygen therapy. Now the center employs about three hundred people.
