The first PCR laboratory in the republic for large-scale testing of military personnel for coronavirus and other infections was launched in Almaty. The ceremonial opening of the medical institution took place with the participation of the first deputy mayor of the city Yerlan Kozhagapanov and representatives of the Ministry of Defense, the correspondent reports Almaty.tv.
The PCR laboratory for military personnel was created on the basis of the Sanitary and Epidemiological Center of the Armed Forces. The premises have been repaired and prepared, the necessary equipment has been installed, commissioning has been carried out, specialists have been trained, including virologists. In total, there are 13 rooms in the laboratory, 9 doctors work.
“The opening of a PCR laboratory for our military personnel is good news, especially in a pandemic. I wish there were only negative results. I sincerely congratulate everyone, ”said the first deputy akim of the city Yerlan Kozhagapanov.
“For the first time, a PCR laboratory was created in the Armed Forces, which will now allow providing the necessary volume of examinations of personnel,” said Nurlan Kadyrmanov, Head of the Sanitary and Epidemiological Center of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Given that military personnel are constantly in close proximity to sources of dangerous infection, the opening of such a laboratory is extremely necessary. From the first days, the military has been actively involved in measures to combat the spread of coronavirus. They disinfect, serve at checkpoints and participate in patrols.
“The PCR laboratory includes 3 working areas. We are now in the 1st block. This is where research begins. The biomaterial enters the transport medium through the gateway, it is disinfected in a laminar flow cabinet, then it is placed in this apparatus, where the virus RNA is released. Then, through the gateway, it is transferred to the next block for preparing the reaction mixture. And then the last stage begins, where it is determined whether there is a virus in the analysis or not, ” says the journalist.
The PCR laboratory will start working tomorrow. Up to 120 analyzes can be processed here per day. In addition to the coronavirus test, other studies will be carried out here to identify more than 20 different viruses.
This is the first such medical facility for the military. In total, there are 7 PCR laboratories for civilians in the city.
